How to choose perfume online: notes, families and sizes

Comment choisir son parfum en ligne : notes, familles et formats

Choosing a fragrance online takes a little method. You cannot yet smell it on your skin, but its product page gives you useful pointers: notes, fragrance family and size. The aim is not to predict the exact result, but to bring your choice closer to what you already enjoy.

Start with the notes

Notes are the facets used to describe a fragrance. The fragrance pyramid generally presents them in three stages: top notes, heart notes and base notes. The first provide the opening impression; the heart carries the main theme; the base gives the composition a deeper presence.

When reading a product page, do not focus on just one word. Rose can be accompanied by citrus, musk or woods and create a very different impression. Likewise, vanilla can be part of a gourmand, amber or woody composition. Look at all the notes and ask yourself which combinations appeal to you.

Use fragrance families as a compass

Fragrance families classify the main impressions of a perfume. They do not replace a skin test, but they help you begin your search.

  • Floral: rose, jasmine, iris or orange blossom.
  • Fresh and fruity: citrus, fruit, green or aquatic notes.
  • Woody: cedar, sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli or other woody facets.
  • Spicy: pepper, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom or saffron.
  • Gourmand and soft: vanilla, caramel, coconut or coffee.

These families can blend. A fragrance can therefore be floral and woody, fresh and fruity, or spicy and gourmand. If you are unsure, start with a note you know, then look at the other facets that accompany it.

Choose the right size and format

Size first tells you the quantity you are buying: for example, a 100 ml bottle or a smaller size to take with you. Always check the volume shown on the product page, especially when comparing two bottles.

The product designation also matters: eau de parfum, eau de toilette, mist or oil do not necessarily describe the same composition. An eau de parfum is not always simply a more concentrated eau de toilette: depending on the house, it may be a different interpretation, with a different accord or facet. Compare the notes and description of the chosen format before drawing conclusions.

Adapt your search to how you will wear it

For everyday wear, you can start with a family you find easy to wear. For an evening or a particular season, look for an impression instead: fresh, floral, woody, spicy or soft. This approach gives you more guidance than the fragrance name or bottle colour alone.

If you are new to the shop, browse the complete Parfum4You selection, then explore Maison Solen and Dubai fragrances. Read the notes, volume and description on each product page. To prepare your order, also consult our shipping and returns conditions or write to us before choosing.

One last check before ordering

Note three things: the notes you like, the family that comes up most often and the size that suits your use. This will make your search more precise, without relying on a promise of longevity or an approximate comparison. Online, a good decision begins with a clear description and your own fragrance preferences.
